RE: Today In Classy

So apparently the Christopher Monfort shirt made to promote a local hardcore band has stirred up much debate on the local punk rock message board NWHardcore.com

Discourse seems to range from the familiar anti-authoritarian themes often espoused by suburban kids who listen to punk, to the more blase attitudes of the older, more jaded set.

Feel free to follow the link  if you are interested in seeing the intellectual rigor put forth by the youth of America.

One detail of note: the band that made the shirt -- whom we are waiting to hear back from before we release their name -- has deep ties to the hardcore gang F.S.U.

UPDATE: The message board poster going by the screen name "realitycheck" is Michael Torres, the singer in the hardcore band Furious Styles and is the creator of the shirt.

He writes (sic throughout):

Unlike some, we don't plan on ever changing our outllook on the police. Fuck all police, today, tomorrow, and forever.

And:

You're right about one thing. I'm definatly a very smart fellow. And a very opinionated and outspoken one as well. Over the last week, I saw a lot of support for this dead officer, and a lot people who alledgedly hate the police putting their opinions aside in the wake of this supposed "tragedy". I've heard it all...he had a family...he has kids...etc...so spare me that bullshit. Everyone has families, many adults have children. That doesn't excuse the actions of police in general and I refuse to change my opinion on the subject. When police die, I feel that the streets are just a little bit safer. So with that being said, I'm in no way embarrassed that we made this shirt. A lot of people took a stance on the situation....now I'm taking mine.

Classy indeed.

Fucking stupid. "Fuck the man*!"

*except the "man" who writes my paychecks, the "man" who manufactures my shitty beer, the "man" who packages the food I eat, the "man" who produces the guitar I write anti-establishment and anti-capitalism songs on....

If this scene wanted to really drop out of society, they'd be raising their own food and making their own cloth somewhere, instead of producing idiot shirts like this. I generally have a pretty high tolerance for the crust/gutter/hardcore scene, but this is beyond dumb.

Venues?
How does one find out where these losers are playing? They don't have any shows planned that I could find.

A Modest Suggestion
I vote that a few of us take baseball bats and give them a taste of street justice, just to see how fast they can dial "911".

white trash with no class
The message board, or whatever it is, is bare today. I guess they couldn't take the comments from those who oppose their pathetic attempt at being cool by producing that shirt. Sure, cops aren't good for the most part, but they went too far.

I come from a punk scene and let me tell you, these guys are not punk. They're punks in the derogatory sense of the word. They have no future in the music scene of Seattle or elsewhere. Talk about slitting your own throats.

get over it
You guys are just adding to the press that the "band" is after. For one thing this band hasn't played a show in a year. The media needs to do their homework. One person in the band made the shirt, the same person that doesn't even live in WA. The whole "band" doesn't even back this issue or probably even knew about it. Bad press is better than no press. So thank you media for putting a spotlight on the scene that I love. and even more, thank you for giving us something to read and something to spark very interesting, thoughtful, heartfelt/heartless discussion.

One more thing. Why doesn't shit like this get scrutinized?
