Seattle Police Department Rolls Out Fixie Unit

In an unexpected move, the Seattle Police Department has unveiled a newer, hipper, specialized bike unit which will, according to department sources*, patrol parts of Capitol Hill, Ballard, and Fremont:

No word yet on whether the fixie unit will provide security for Mayor-elect McGinn when he rides his bike to work.

seriously?! did you read jake's flicker at all? It was obvious that him and friends were riding their bikes and doing tricks. some cops came up and were talking with jake and wanted to try them out to A. see what all the hype was about. and B. to try and do a backwards circle. there is no such thing as a fixie patrol unit. you're an idiot. these guys were just goofing around and having fun. to top it all off. the bikes pictured DONT HAVE BREAKS! I doubt the city would send them out without any breaks, let alone on a fixed gear with only one front break.

RE: re: fixie patrol
You ever rode a fixie? All fixies have breaks, just not the traditional brakes you are thinking of.

Cost Cutting Measure
Sounds like a great way for the city to save a few bucks. Those 9 extra gears are pricey!

Jonah FTW
Bummer. I was looking forward to seeing them go the whole 9 yards and ditching uniforms for train car hobo clothes, skinny jeans, greasy hair and drinking PBR.
