Police Release Profile of Suspect, Info on Car Linked to Officer Shooting

Seattle police have released a profile of a suspect and photos of the vehicle they believe is connected to the drive-by shooting of officers Britt Sweeney and Timothy Brenton on Halloween.

This afternoon at SPD headquarters, Assistant Chief Jim Pugel said police and federal agents have combed through nearly 300 tips as of this morning, and pieced together a description of the man they believe they are looking for.

Pugel says their suspect likely has prior weapons training, and may have recently been practicing or using their firearms more frequently. Pugel says the may be acting unusually since the shooting, either showing a fascination with the incident, or being uncharacteristically quiet when the topic comes up. Police also believe the man may have suffered some recent personal crisis, and that “We are willing to listen to the killer to better understand his grievance,” Pugel said.

Police have also identified a vehicle they believe was used in the shooting, a white 1980-83 Datsun 210. While Pugel says the department is “not saying absolutely that it is the vehicle,” SPD is asking that anyone who recently had a similar vehicle stolen, or sold a vehicle like this one to contact them on their tip line at 233-5000.
