Man Shot in Othello Park, Teen Arrested With Gun In Rainier Valley

Police say a 20-year-old man was shot in Othello Park last night in South Seattle in an apparent gang shooting.

At about 10:45 pm, police were called to Swedish Hospital after a 20-year-old man was brought in with a gunshot wound. Friends of the man told police that the 20-year-old was in Othello Park with a group of other men, when they heard a shot and saw the 20-year-old fall to the ground.

Witnesses saw four black males in dark clothing fleeing the scene.

The man’s friends took him to the hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the chest and wrist.

Gang unit detectives are investigating.

As I noted yesterday in my post about crime statistics in Seattle, Othello Park is one of the areas sometimes neglected by police due to problems with under staffing.

In another separate incident last night, officers in the South Precinct also responded to a call about twenty juveniles harassing people and jumping on cars in a parking lot in the 9000 block of Rainier Ave S at about 9:30.

When police arrived, one young man took off running. As he was sprinting away, police say a handgun fell out of his pants. The young man grabbed the gun and dumped it in a garbage can.

Officers chased after the boy and arrested him for illegal possession of a firearm. The gun was recovered by officers.
