A 19-year-old man was injured in a strange shooting near Seattle Center last night, which has drawn the attention of gang detectives.
At about 6:30 last night, the 19-year-old man called police and said he had been shot and was headed to Swedish Hospital on First Hill. The man then hung up.
Police met up with the man at the hospital, but weren’t able to get much information from him. He apparently told officers he had met with someone near the Seattle Center about buying a new engine for his car. The man said he was sitting behind the wheel of his car when he was shot and police determined that the bullet—which hit the man in his left leg—was fired from inside the car.
The 19-year-old eventually told police he’d shot himself, but it doesn’t appear that police recovered a gun in the man’s car, which showed up at Swedish missing both its front and rear license plates.
Gang unit and homicide detectives were notified of the shooting, but it’s not clear which unit is handling the investigation.
