Man Claiming To Be Police Chaplain Busted With Child Porn

From the PI.Com:

King County prosecutors have filed child pornography charges against a West Seattle man who told investigators he’d worked for decades as a police chaplain.

Russell James Sellers, 58, first caught the attention of investigators in July 2008, when a State Patrol detective determined a computer at his West Seattle address was sharing child pornography through an online service, according to charging documents.

Prosecutors contend Sellers’ computers held at least 22 videos, some of which showed children as young as 4 years old. They also say Sellers told investigators he’d worked as a police chaplain in California for 30 years.

That claim — which could not be corroborated Friday by the department named by Sellers — should give the court pause, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Cecelia Gregson said in court documents.

Gregson requested Sellers be held on $50,000 bail “out of concern for the safety of children whose parents might mistakenly trust in a member of a religious organization based upon the fact of being a minister alone.”
