Seattle police say a female officer was assaulted less than a block away from the East Precinct earlier this evening.
According to SPD spokesman Jeff Kappel two men attacked the officer in or near the East Precinct parking lot—which is about a half-block north of the East Precinct on 12th and Pine—at about 7:45pm.
Kappel says the officer was not seriously injured.
Police are searching for a white Lexus they believe is connected to the assault.
It appears the vehicle may be registered at the same address as a teenage girl charged in connection with a series of bank robberies. The girl was just released from detention earlier today so she may attend her school’s prom.
More as we get it.
UPDATE: SPD spokesman Jeff Kappel says police have not yet made any connection between this incident, and the girl released just from juvie.
Here’s the SPD release on the incident:
On May 21st at 7:41 p.m. a female Seattle Police Officer had just finished her patrol shift in the East Precinct. She was off duty in plain clothes driving her personal vehicle and was attempting to pull out of the East Precinct parking lot in the 1600 block of 12th Avenue. Two male suspects occupying a white 1995 Lexus GS 4-door sedan were blocking the exit gate of the parking lot with their car. After some time elapses, the suspects move their car forward and the officer begins pulling out onto the street. As she does so the suspects begin pulling out lurching toward the officer’s vehicle. The officer slams on her brakes to avoid a collision. Both the officer and the passenger of the suspect vehicle get out of their respective cars. A verbal altercation ensues and the officer identifies herself as a police officer. She then calls for backup on her cell phone.
As officers are responding to the scene the suspect approached the officer and swings at her, striking her on the face and also striking her hand holding the cell phone. The officer maintains control of her cell phone and the suspect gets back into the Lexus and the suspects drive away.
The officer gets back into her car and follows the suspects for a couple of blocks before discontinuing. The suspects remain at large at this time.
The primary suspect is described as a black male, late 20’s, bald and heavy-set wearing a black shirt and black pants. The suspect/driver is described as a black male, 20’s, wearing a white sweater with a horizontal stripe on it.
The officer is 42-years-old and a 13-year veteran of the Department. She is currently assigned as a patrol officer in the East Precinct. She was not injured and did not require medical attention.
Anyone with information about this incident or who may know the identities or whereabouts of the suspects is asked to call 911 or Seattle Police immediately and refer to this incident.
