Just one week after we posted that the suspect in a series of arson fires in the University District had moved out of state, firefighters were called to staunch another small blaze set in the neighborhood.
Shortly after 1:00am Sunday morning, SFD received a report of a dumpster fire in the 4200 block of 11th Ave NE, near where at least four other fires have been set since the beginning of the year.
According to Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen, investigators determined this latest fire “was intentionally set” in a dumpster behind an apartment building, causing about $350 in damage. No one was injured in the incident.
Vander Houwen would not say whether investigators believe the fire is connected to a string of other arsons on 42nd and 11th, and referred questions about the investigation to SPD. We’ll follow up with police later today and see if we can find out whether the University District’s friendly neighborhood arsonist is back in action.
