Seattle police are reviewing security tapes at the Lake City Fred Meyer to identify a possible suspect after a woman was sexually assaulted near the store earlier this afternoon.
Police tell us the woman was attacked in the store’s lower parking lot around 4:00pm by a man who may have been carrying a baseball bat.
The suspect is described as a heavyset black male, wearing a light colored shirt and a multi-color knit cap.

On July 14th at approximately 4:23 p.m. officers responded to a 911 call of a sexual assault that reportedly occurred near the loading dock of a retail store in the 13000 block of 33rd Avenue NE. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect approached the victim as she got out of her car. The suspect pushed the victim to the ground near some dumpsters, threatened her with harm and sexually assaulted her. The suspect then fled the scene and remains at large. The 50-year-old female victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment however, she was not injured during the attack.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5′10″, 240 lbs., wearing a multi-colored knit cap and light-colored shirt, and reportedly armed with a baseball bat and a large knife.
Sexual Assault Unit detectives are actively investigating.
