The Morning Blotter: Shooting Round-Up

It’s been such a great week that we have reports on two recent shooting reports to share with you!

On 9-5-0 at roughly 0050 while working a two-officer emphasis patrol with
Officer Blase (#7553) we were dispatched to a Shooting Call at the [Garfield Community Center]
located at 7xx 24th Ave.
Dispatch noted on the call that 3-gun shots were heard followed by another shot further away.

Upon arrival we were flagged down by a group standing in the parking lot of
the [community center]

We contacted [a witness] who stated that there was a Birthday Party at the community center and that a
disturbance which originally started inside had spilled out to the parking lot.

[A witness] said he heard someone yell to get something from a vehicle [and]
 said the unknown suspect later returned and fired 3-4 shots from a
low caliber handgun.

[T]he unknown suspect along with numerous other subjects got into a black Buick sedan and
 drove to the stop sign directly across the street at which time all the occupants got out and
acted as if they were going to continue the fight.

[The witness] said all of the subjects got back into the vehicle which then drove W/B on E Cherry St.

[The witness] added that the male subject who originally started the disturbance fled the area W/B on E Cherry St in a black Dodge Ram pick-up truck
(Unknown Vehicle 3). [Witness] said he then heard an unknown victim say that he
had been shot in the leg.

Officers were unable to locate this victim. The victim had left the area before officers arrived.
[Harborview] was notified to be on the look out for this victim.

W3/ was also contacted by officers at the scene. [Witness] stated that she heard two shots from inside her apartment. said she
looked out her window and observed the unknown suspect crouched down near
some shrubs in the community center parking lot who she then observed fire
2-3 additional rounds.

[She] said the unknown suspect ran across the street and jumped in a Honda Civic ( ) which then drove W/B on E
Cherry St.

This vehicle was not located.

Officers stopped a possible suspect vehicle at E. James St and Broadway. and W2/ arrived at the
location and positively identified all the subjects inside the vehicle as being involved in the incident but could not positively identify any of the
subjects as the shooter.

 The subjects inside the vehicle were identified as Subject1/ S2/ , S3/ S4/ S5/ , S6/
Officers received permission to search the Buick but did not locate the weapon.
All subjects inside the vehicle were I & R'd from the scene.
The Gang Unit arrived on scene and took over the investigation and
processed the scene.

And:

On the above listed date/time I responded to 91xx M L King Jr Wy S for a
report of shots fired. Upon arrival officers found victims...in the parking lot of the [redacted] located
at 91xx M L King Jr Wy S.
[Victim] sustained a gunshot wound to his foot and [victim 2] sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

Both victims stated they were working the door to the club when the unknown suspect attempted to
gain entry. The unknown suspect was not allowed entry into the club. As
the unknown suspect walked away he produced a firearm and fired several
rounds at the victims.

The suspect then left northbound on foot.
Both
victims stated they did not know the suspect.
Both victims were transported to [Harborview] with non-life threatening injuries.
Officers located 8 .40 caliber shell casings in the parking lot of 91xx M L
King Wy S. Several subjects were detained in the parking lot of the club
house. All subjects contacted stated they did not witness the incident. 3
handguns were recovered from the subjects contacted including one from
victim . All recovered firearms were submitted to the SPD Evidence
Unit.

SPD Gang Unit responded to the scene to photograph and process the scene.
