The Weekend Blotter

We missed a few items from SPD’s blotter over the weekend. Let’s play catchup!

Robbery Suspect Arrested Near Seattle Center:

On October 9th, at approximately 2:00 AM, West Precinct officers responded to a store in the 100 Block of Mercer Street on a report that store security was detaining a combative individual for shoplifting.  According to security, the contacted the man for taking a bottle of wine without paying for it.  The man refused to go back inside the store and began assaulting the security officers in the head with the bottle of wine.  The security officers were able to take the suspect into custody and detain him until police were called.  Police arrived and arrested the man.  He was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.

Shots Fired In Belltown, Police Arrest Two:

On October 9th, at approximately 1:47 AM,  bicycle officers working the late night patrol emphasis in Belltown were on patrol. The officers heard a gunshot to the east of their location, in the 100 Block of Bell Street.  As the officers rode into the area to investigate, they observed security from a nightclub run into the alley.  The officers followed the security and saw that they were attempting to break up a fight between two men.  The officers took control of the situation and arrested both of the fighting suspects. They were then able to get the following story:

The two intoxicated suspects got into a mutual fight because one of the suspects had decided to rest on the other’s parked car.  During the fight each suspect alleged that a gun was displayed by the other suspect.  Officers conducted an extensive search of the area and could not locate a gun or a shell casing.  It is believed that the gun might have been passed off to an onlooker, or the shot may have been fired by a completely different suspect.  In either case, there were no injuries from the shot fired.  Both suspects sustained minor scrapes and cuts from the fight, but required no medical attention.

Teen Crashes Car On Railroad Tracks:

On October 9th at approximately 12:30 AM, a 1999 Audi A4, driven by a 17 year old male with a 17 year old female passenger, was travelling northbound on the Alaskan Way Viaduct.  As the car approached the 2200 Block of Alaskan Way,(South Landers Street),  it suddenly left the east side of the roadway and collided with stationary train sitting on the tracks just east of the Viaduct.

The Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene and had to extract the passenger out of the car.  Both the driver and the passenger were transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries.  Alcohol may have been a factor in this collision.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation.  The detectives will be responsible for the follow up investigation.

Police are also investigating an apparent gang-related shooting on Lower Queen Anne (although everyone else is saying this happened in Belltown, even though 1st and Denny totally isn’t Belltown). More on that here.
