Man Dragged By Cab In Ballard
On 12/5/10, at approximately 1:00 a.m., witnesses reported that the victim was trying to get into a yellow cab that was already occupied (possibly by the victim’s acquaintances) at NW Market and Ballard Ave NW. As the cab was pulling away from the curb after picking these people up, the passengers closed the cab’s door on the victim.
The victim then jumped on the trunk of the cab and was carried on the trunk for a short distance. The victim then slid off and began running next to the cab. According to witnesses, it was unclear if the victim was being dragged intentionally or merely got hung up on the cab and was being carried along. After running a short distance, the victim fell from the cab and landed on his head in the street. The cab then drove away from the scene, failing to stop or slow for the victim.
Yellow Cab; unknown cab number or license at the time of this report; last seen east bound on NW Market Street.
The victim sustained serious injuries and major head trauma. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 911.
Man Barricades Himself In Hospital Bathroom
On 12/4/10, at approximately 6:00 p.m., security officers discovered an unknown subject in the men’s restroom in a closed portion of a hospital in the 100 block of 16 Ave E. He was observed to be armed with a folding knife. He refused to leave the restroom and proceeded to barricade himself inside.
He made no threats, and put the knife away on request. Upon arrival of patrol units, he communicated with them briefly but refused to identify himself or exit the restroom. SWAT and Hostage Negotiators responded to the scene. The subject refused to communicate or leave the restroom. Upon impasse, SWAT introduced pepper spray into the restroom, and made entry.
They removed the suspect without incident. He was evaluated by Seattle Fire Department and then transported to the East Precinct.
Officers discovered that the suspect had damaged several fixtures in the restroom while barricaded.
He was booked into King County Jail for Criminal Trespass and Property Destruction, with referral to Mental Health Court. Narcotics use and impairment appeared likely, from observation of the suspect’s behavior and the presence of paraphernalia.
On 12/4/10, at approximately 1:15 p.m., neighborhood children were playing outside when one of them kicked a ball over a fence at a house in the 4200 block of S. Kenny St.
A 10- year- old boy climbed over the six foot fence to retrieve the ball. There were 4 bull mastiffs in the back yard. Three of the dogs attacked the child and bit him on both arms, neck, and head. The child suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. Seattle Fire Department responded and subsequently transported the child to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Animal Control responded and impounded the dogs.
