Prosecutors Charge Man With Hate Crime After Grocery Store Freakout

On Dec. 26, Charles Anthel Webb, 41, allegedly lashed out at a female cashier at Grocery Outlet, 1702 4th Ave. S., when she asked if he was ready to make a purchase, charges said. The cashier told Seattle police that the man had said, “If you don’t like to work, why don’t you go back to your country?”

The cashier said she then finished up the transaction with Webb and he snatched the merchandise from her hand, charges said. Webb then allegedly cursed at the woman and called her names.

A man who overheard what was going on walked up and asked the cashier if everything was OK. Webb allegedly told him to “go back to your own country, too,” court papers said. Webb then left the store.
