SPD officers are on the lookout for a group of prolific car prowlers who’ve targeted joggers in parks in Greenlake, Magnolia, the University District, as well as Shoreline and other areas outside of Seattle.
On February 3rd, police were called to Discovery Park to take a car prowl report.
As officers arrived, they spotted a Volkswagen Jetta, occupied by a woman and two men, fleeing the scene.
Police believe this car is associated with a group of seven prolific car prowlers–four men and three women, all between 25 and 39 years old.
SPD says this group is targeting cars in “destination parks” frequented by joggers and walkers.
The prowlers apparently camp out in parking lots and watch for joggers stashing purses, wallets, and cellphones in their car trunks. As soon as joggers leave, the prowlers break into the cars, take items, and flee.
In addition to Jetta, police believe the suspects may also use a blue 93 Suburan, Gray 85 GMC Van, black and blue 84 Chevy Blazers, and a maroon 93 Jeep Cherokee.
We’re working to get more info on these car prowlers, and we’ll update when we do.
Keep an eye out for suspicious-looking types peeking in car windows, and don’t leave anything valuable in your car, folks.
