Officer Birk Resigns

KIRO TV:

Seattle police officer Ian Birk — whose fatal shooting of a Native American woodcarver last summer was ruled unjustified — is resigning, a source tells KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

Birk’s resignation comes on a day when the Police Department’s Firearms Review Board called the shooting “unjustified and outside of policy, tactics and training.”

Also Wednesday, King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg announced that no criminal charge would be filed against Birk. Satterberg called the shooting a “good faith mistake, however tragic.”
