Police Say Alleged Torturer-Rapist Could Have Other Victims

Seattle police believe the 66-year-old man charged with kidnapping, torturing, and raping a woman at his Tacoma home earlier this month may have other victims.

Police have set up a hotline and are asking anyone who may have had contact with John Hauff Jr. to contact them as detectives continue to investigate the case. The number’s 206-233-5000.

SPD Assistant Chief Jim Pugel says the department found no phsyical evidence of additional victims in what police describe as a “torture room” inside Hauff’s mobile home in Tacoma. However, Pugel says “If this guy did this once, he could have done this previously.

Seattle police are now working with detectives from the Tacoma Police Department on the case.

TPD tells us a cold case detective visited the property earlier this week, but didn’t find any evidence of additional victims. We’re told detectives will likely search the large 20-30 acre property again soon.

Hauff has not spoken with police since his arrest. He’s being held at the King County Jail and was denied bail.
