Police arrested a man at Harborview last week after a dispute over cash led to a cutlery-wielding clash in the hospital’s cafeteria.
Just before 3:30 p.m. on April 19, a woman in Harborview’s cafeteria dropped some money on the floor. A man then grabbed the cash off the ground, and refused to give it back to the woman.
The report doesn’t say how much cash the man and woman were fighting over, but the dispute quickly turned ugly.
“[T]he suspect grabbed a butter knife and threatened to harm [the victim],” Officer Alfred Warner wrote in his report. “In an effort to defend herself, said she picked up a fork and began to argue with the suspect.”
A group of bystanders broke up the fight, and the female victim left the cafeteria.
The suspect followed the woman through the hospital and began threatening her, a police report says.
The suspect then charged the woman, but hospital security intervened and, after a brief struggle, handcuffed the man.
A Harborview security guard flagged down an officer driving by the hospital, and reported that staff had detained the suspect.
Police booked the man into the King County Jail for assault and harassment.
