The Weekend Blotter

Vandals Trash North Seattle Alternative School:

On June 10th, a large number of volunteers gathered at a school in the 11500 Block of 12th Avenue NE to repaint the retaining walls, add murals and landscape the grounds.  The volunteers and staff finished around 7:00 PM.  Sometime between the time the volunteers left and 10:00 AM on June 11th, an unknown suspect or suspects came onto school grounds and did extensive damage to the recent improvements.  The damage included new planters overturned, damaged and broken, and between 30-40 individual graffiti “tags” made with permanent marker on the new murals and classroom doorways.  North Precinct officers responded to the school shortly after 12:00 noon when the damage was reported.  Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact the Seattle Police.

Shots Fired In the University District:

On June 11th, at approximately 2:15 AM, there were multiple 911 calls about shots fired in the 5200 Block of University Way NE.  Witness descriptions of the suspect vehicle varied from a white 90′s Camaro to a white Cadillac.  North Precinct officers arrived but could not locate any victims or damage resulting from the shots being fired.  Officers did, however, recover 10 shell casings from the parking lot and immediate area, which were collected and submitted into evidence.

We’ve gotten one report of another round of gunfire early Sunday morning. We’re trying to get more info.

Gang Detectives Investigating Shooting At Beacon Hill Community Center:

On June 10th, at approximately 6:30 PM, South Precinct officers responded to a call of a fight disturbance involving fifteen males in front of the Jefferson Community Center in the 3800 Block of Beacon Avenue South.  As officers were enroute to the call, it was updated that 6-7 shots had been fired.  Officers arrived quickly, but the suspect(s) had fled.

Officers did locate a 60 year old woman who had been sitting inside her parked car just north of the community center.  She told officers that she observed an unknown male retrieve a handgun from a gold SUV that was parked next to her car.  While standing in front of her car, the suspect fired several shots at a white car that was fleeing the scene northbound on Beacon Avenue South.  The victim ducked down in the front seat of her car when the shooting began and was not injured.  Two rounds from the gun struck the roof of her car and exited through the back window.

Officers recovered several 9mm shell casings from the scene.  The victim’s car was taken to the processing room for further evidence collection.  Gang Unit detectives are following up on this investigation.  Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Seattle Police.
