Early last month, an alert Lake City man called police after seeing burglary suspects at his neighbors’ house, one carrying a half-full pillowcase.
Dispatchers broadcast their car description to North Seattle patrol officers, and one driving south on Interstate 5 saw the suspects’ black Chevy Cavalier. He arrested the men on Northeast 45th Street and reported seeing the victims’ belongings stuffed in a pillowcase in the car’s backseat.
But a day after their arrest, the victims’ property was gone again – this time to an acquaintance of one the burglary suspects because of a clerical mistake.
“The simple fact is we released the car before we should have,” Lincoln manager Chuck Labertew said Wednesday. “This was an honest clerical mistake.”
