Yet Another Stabbing At 3rd and Pine

On August 21st at approximately 2:50 p.m. officers responded to the report of a stabbing near 3rd Avenue and Pine Street.  Preliminary investigation indicates that both the victim and the suspect were riding on a Metro bus that was traveling northbound on 3rd Avenue.  Near Pine Street the suspect got into an altercation with another citizen riding on the bus and subsequently poured a beer on that citizen.

The victim’s stop had arrived and he was trying to get his mother and the rest of his family off the bus.  For reasons unknown, the suspect instigated an altercation with the victim as he was trying to exit the bus.  The bus doors opened and the victim and suspect exited the bus at which time the physical altercation between them continued on the sidewalk.

Just north of 3rd Avenue and Pine Street the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim at least twice before fleeing the scene on foot.  Multiple witnesses called 911.

Responding officers located and arrested the suspect near 4th Avenue and Olive Way.  A folding knife with a 3.5 inch blade was recovered from the suspect’s pocket.  The knife was subsequently booked into evidence.

The 30-year-old male victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) by SFD medics with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 38-year-old male suspect was transported to HMC by ambulance for treatment of cuts to his hand he sustained while stabbing the victim.

The suspect is currently under guard and will be booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault upon his release from the hospital.
