About That Other SPD Human Trafficking Grant

In addition to the $294,000 grant the Seattle Police Department received yesterday, which will provide counseling to sexually exploited children, SPD has also locked up another $500,000 to pay for its fight against human trafficking.

SPD has obtained a two-year $500,000 federal grant which to pay for the department’s full-time human trafficking detective, as well as a civilian trafficking analyst in SPD’s Vice High-Risk Victims Unit.

The half-million dollar grant apparently only funds the analyst for a year, so we’re working to find out where else that money’s going. That’s a lot of cash to only pay for two positions.
