The Weekend Fuzz: Cyclist Killed, Cars Torched

Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a cyclist, plus a series of arsons on Beacon Hill. Our weekend report:

1) A cyclist was killed in a collision in the University District  Saturday evening.

Police say the cyclist was riding south on University Way when he collided with a car turning onto NE Campus Parkway.

The cyclist—who worked for a University District restaurant—was thrown from his bike during the crash and died later that night at Harborview.

Police say the driver was not impaired.

Traffic investigators are handling the case.

2) Three cars were torched in a series of apparently connected arson fires on Beacon Hill Sunday morning.

Around 5:15 am on September 11, firefighters and police responded to reports of three burning cars near the 14th Ave S and S Nevada St.

SPD says officers also found two other vehicles they believe were “in the process of being set on fire.” Burning papers were left inside one of the two vehicles.
