SPD Narcotics Detective Crashes Patrol Car, Gets Arrested For DUI

Updated:

A Seattle Police Department detective was arrested for DUI earlier today after he was involved in a collision, according to a statement from the department.

According to SPD, the 23-year veteran detective was driving an unmarked police car in Mukilteo when he rear-ended another vehicle at an intersection, pushing it into two other cars. Police say there were no serious injuries.

Department sources have identified him to PubliCola as narcotics detective John Fox.

It’s not clear whether he was on duty at the time of the crash.

The department has opened an Office of Professional Accountability investigation into the incident.

Update:

Mukilteo police released a statement on the crash Friday morning.

According to MPD, the four-vehicle crash happened around 1:20 pm Thursday afternoon on the Mukilteo Speedway. The detective was driving a SPD-owned GMC SUV.

Three drivers were treated at the scene for injuries, but none of them were seriously hurt in the collision.

The 46-year-old SPD detective was detained by MPD, and declined to take a field sobriety test, according to the statement. He also declined to take a breathalyzer test at MPD’s holding facility.

Police cited the detective and released him to an SPD supervisor, as MPD apparently typically only books people into jail for violent crimes.
