City Issues Occupy Permit For Black Friday

Westlake Park’s going to be busy on Friday.

The city has issued Occupy Seattle a permit to use the park Friday, which should already be packed with the usual crowds waiting in line for the Westlake carousel or shopping downtown on the busiest buying day of the year.

Occupy Seattle’s permit—issued by the Seattle parks department—says the group  will have an “arts and crafts booth,” speakers, choral groups, and square dancing between 12 pm and 5 pm. Occupy Seattle’s website also says the group plans to “demonstrate against all that is wrong with corporate America and participate in a day of protest,” before the group heads off to occupy a bunch of Wal-Marts around the region.

Occupy’s permit says the group is supposed to be on the opposite end of the park from the carousel.

According to a statement from the city, “The sponsors of the Carousel and the organizers of Occupy Seattle have met and discussed how their events can coexist in Westlake Park.”

So we’ll see how that goes.
