Today in Fuzz: Teen accidentally shot in West Seattle, officer beaten at Seahawks game, and a mail theft fail.
1) Police say a 15-year-old girl was accidentally shot by a friend while they were smoking weed in a car near 32nd Avenue SW and SW Juneau Street in West Seattle Tuesday night. The teen was struck in the thigh, and police say her injuries are not life-threatening. The teen initially wouldn’t give officers much info, according to the Seattle Police Department, but later admitted she knew the man who had shot her. Gang detectives are investigating the incident.
2) A Seattle police officer was attacked and knocked unconscious while trying to escort a man out of a Seahawks game on Christmas Eve.
Police records say the officer was helping stadium security remove a 27-year-old man from Centurylink Field after the man was caught seat surfing, moving from his nosebleed-level seat down to a seat near the field.
A report says after security contacted the man, he began “flailing wildly” and knocked the officer into a concrete wall “causing him to hit his head and fall to the ground,” a report says.
Witnesses later told police “the blow to [the officer’s head] was audible even over the stadium noise.” While the officer was lying on the ground, the man stood over the officer and punched him at least three times. The officer was unconscious when backup officers arrived and arrested the man.
Medics took the officer to Harborview, and police took the man to jail.
3) Police arrested two alleged thieves early this morning after a K9 officer spotted a car swerving over the road near 133rd and 20th Ave. NE just after midnight and watched two people in the car steal mail out of mailboxes.
Officers stopped the car and found a large bag on the floor, which contained 115 pieces of mail, including gift cards, Netflix movies, checks, credit cards, and Christmas cards.
Officers booked a 21-year-old man and 19-year-old woman into jail for mail theft.
