A veteran Seattle police officer was arrested in an SPD drug sting yesterday following an internal investigation, according to law enforcement sources.
The investigation began after another officer in the department suspected the veteran officer was using drugs, and notified SPD’s chain of command. After an internal investigation, police busted the officer with crack cocaine last night, according to a source.
The officer—who has been with the department for 22 years and currently works at the South Precinct, according to a source—was booked into the King County Jail early this morning and released after half an hour. He has not yet been charged with a crime.
We’ll have more details as we get them. SPD Chief John Diaz is holding a press conference later today to discuss the arrest.
