Catching a Burglar? There’s an App for That.

Today in Fuzz: Man fatally shot on Capitol Hill, kid tracks burglar to downtown Seattle.

One man was killed in a shooting on Capitol Hill late Tuesday night.

Police say the man was shot on the street at Harvard Ave. and E. Olive around 11:15 pm.

The man was hit in the chest and died at the scene. The gunman fled in a Ford Crown Victoria or a vehicle similar to an older cop car.

Following the shooting, police pulled at least two people over—one man had a gun like the one used in the shooting—but it doesn’t appear they made an arrest.

SPD is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call police at (206) 233-5000.

2) Catching burglars? There’s an app for that.

Police say a kid used a GPS app to track down a burglar who broke into his family’s home earlier this week.

The burglar broke into the kid’s home on 12 Ave E. and E. Boston St. late January 13 or early January 14 and looted the place.

The next morning, the kid used an app on his computer to trace the stolen goods to downtown Seattle, somewhere between 1st Ave. and Pike St. and 3rd Ave. and Pine St.

Police spotted a man in the McDonald’s at 3rd Ave. and Pine carrying large brown duffle bag, just like one that was taken from the family’s home.

Officers stopped the suspect near the bus tunnel, and one of the victims called his own cell phone, which he then heard ringing from the suspect’s pocket.

Police booked the 21-year-old suspect into the King County Jail for possession of stolen property.
