Today in Fuzz: Scammers target city employees; Georgetown biz burgled, neighbors complain about rise in crime.
1) Police say some “overseas” ne’er-do-wells sent a scammy email to “hundreds” of city employees, disguised as an email about a traffic ticket.
The emails—which police say also contained a “poisoned link”—went something like this:

Except for the crazy backwards metric-date, and the fact that the city doesn’t have a DMV or email out tickets, it looks totally legit, right?
SPD is now working with Microsoft to find where the emails came from.
2) Burglars stole between $17,000 and $25,000 worth of equipment from the Georgetown Music Store earlier this week, and neighborhood residents seem to think the big-time burglary is proof that Georgetown is being “plundered by car prowlers, thieves and metal scrapers,” according to an email sent around the neighborhood.
The email on a neighborhood listserv says that “During the late part of December until now—there have been car break-ins, thefts, and other crimes almost EVERY night. If the “broken window” theory is true—which I believe it is—these “minor” crimes will escalate.”
Georgetown community members have asked police to come to a meeting next week to discuss the supposed uptick in crime.
